L’oro al tempo dei Bitcoin

L’oro al tempo dei Bitcoin vuole far riflettere sul sempre più crescente divario tra ricchi e poveri. In un mondo governato dalla finanza, esistono ancora villaggi in cui intere famiglie cercano l’oro per sussistere, costrette dalla fame a vivere continue situazioni di pericolo. Questo breve reportage video vuole essere un invito a riflettere sulla provenienza dei nostri averi, sulla storia che c’è dietro ciò che acquistiamo.

Il progetto nasce durante un viaggio fatto in Madagascar e dalla scoperta che in un piccolo ospedale sperduto nella foresta, ogni giorno, arrivano uomini con la schiena spezzata dalla terra che frana. Quegli uomini sono i cercatori d’oro, che si infilano in tunnel sotterranei profondi più di 20 metri, senza luci, nella speranza di trovare la pepita che gli cambierà la vita.

L’oro al tempo dei Bitcoin is about the ever-increasing gap between rich and poor. In a world governed by finance, there are still villages in which entire families are seeking gold to survive, families forced by hunger and desperation to endure a constant situation of danger. This short video report wants to be an invitation to reflect on the origin of our belongings, on the history behind what we buy.

The project was born during a trip made in Madagascar, by discovering that, in a small hospital lost in the forest, many men arrive every day with their backs broken by the landslides. Those men are gold diggers, people who slip themselves into underground tunnels more than 20 meters deep, without lights, in the hope of finding the nugget that could change their life.
